Telemicus had just finished washing off the last remnants off pod goo when his comm beeped. He turned off the shower and thumbed the answer plate on the little hand held unit. It was Agrus, back at Unity.
“Commander Thrace, don’t forget you have a design briefing on deck twenty seven in six minutes.”
“Thank you adjutant, I had not forgotten”
The truth was he had completely forgotten. He started out the door and began walking briskly towards the Marginis med lab. He had been so busy with the fighting in Catch and the upcoming fire festival everything else had slipped from his mind. He ignored the group of Gallente Medi-Techs who tried to get his attention and carried on his conversation.
“Is there any word on our border stations after the failed CVA incursion?”
“None sir, the situation on the border is secure again. However a sizable CVA fleet has been camping outside Unity terrorizing civilian traffic.”
Damn them. Weeks of patrols in enemy space had barely turned up a sensor contact. The moment the fleet was moved to the frontlines in support of ISS the slavers felt confident enough to come out of their hiding holes and shoot shuttles.
“Ignore them Agrus. Advise all traffic in the area to exercise extreme caution in the vicinity of Unity. Inform all fuel convoys and medical transports to expect hostilities. They can’t harm the station, let them sit and watch the billboards. We will deal with them once we are finished here. Thrace out.”
It was an obvious ploy to draw Ushra’Khan away from the war with the IAC. It was a shame the slavers didn’t chose to be more open in their support of their old friends. Such underhanded tactics were uncharacteristic, even for the slavers.
Tel skidded into the medlab and was surprised to be greeted by a blushing nurse and a surprised looking doctor. It was then he realized he hadn’t dressed after getting out of the shower.
“Oh, I see. Well, I’m sure it’s nothing you ain’t seen before being in the clone business right? I need to clone jump fast.”
Just as they finished taping the electrodes to his temples his comm beeped again.
“Sir, the technical team is assembled.”
“Right you are, see if you can get a bottle of rum dropped off at the boardroom. Tell them I’ll be there in a flash.”
